Rudy Giuliani (71), abogado de la Universidad de Nueva York, fue nombrado jefe de la Unidad de Narcóticos con solo 29 años y Fiscal General de Estados Unidos a los 37. Su primer triunfo en Nueva York, fue cuando combatió la corrupción mientras era fiscal del distrito, hecho que más adelante, en el año 2001, ayudaría a convertirse en alcalde de la ciudad.

Fue en ese cargo que Giuliani debió enfrentarse a la mayor amenaza a la seguridad que ha vivido Estados Unidos, el ataque a las torres gemelas. Desde ese momento, la carrera política de “Rudy” despegó ganándose el apodo de “El alcalde de Estados Unidos” gracias al manejo de la crisis de seguridad que se vivió tras el atentado. Fue nombrado el personaje del año por la revista Time (2001), condecorado por la Reina Isabel II y obtuvo el premio Ronald Reagan Presidential Freedom de mano de la ex primera dama Nancy Reagan.

Recibió el premio de “Innovaciones en el Gobierno” entregado por la Escuela de Gobierno John F. Kennedy de la Universidad de Harvard, en 1996 por su programa municipal CompStat con el que disminuyó las cifras de delincuencia.

Para el 2002 fue reelecto como alcalde de la ciudad y siguió con su lucha contra la delincuencia logrando galardonar a Nueva York como “la ciudad más segura” según el FBI.

Ese mismo año publicó su libro Leadership, donde relata el éxito de su gestión durante y después del 11 de septiembre.

El 2007 decidió presentarse como candidato republicano a la presidencia, para finalmente entregarle su apoyo al senador John McCain, haciendo un paso al costado de la carrera presidencial.

Actualmente se dedica al negocio de la seguridad a través de su empresa Giuliani Partners LLC, prestando asesoría a empresas e incluso gobiernos y sigue conectado con la política prestando apoyo a distintos candidatos.
